He signed with fifth league team ASU Politehnica Timişoara in 2013, replacing Antonio Foale who became General Manager. He debuted with a 3–0 victory over Gran-Plaz Liebling on 18 March 2013. He resigned on 29 November 2014.

For the UEFA Euro 2008 in Switzerland and Austria, he was coached by Victor Piţurcă. He completed all three group matches. On 25 March 2008, before the tournament, Cordea was honored for his achievements in the European Championship qualifiers, by the Romanian President Traian Băsescu with the "Meritul Sportiv", an award for athletes.

Codrea started playing football in his hometown at the club LPS Banatul Timișoara. Good performances, he played on the notes of scouts and a little later he moved to the youth department of Dinamo București. From the 1996–97 season he was in the first team of the Romanian giants. However, he completed only two games and Dinamo before the manager decided to sale him for the rest of the season at Politehnica Timişoara in Liga II. Two seasons later, he transferred back to the Liga 1 this time to Argeș Pitești. There, Codrea also sign a two-year contract. Neither in Timișoara, yet at Pitesti was Codrea set and was mostly a reserve player, but was flashed off and his talent. It was not until the summer of 2001 he move abroad, he received more playing time. His first club was in Italy was Genoa in Serie B. Even in the first season he was a regular player. Quick other Italian clubs were aware of him, so he moved to the winter of 2003 to Palermo. In the first year the club narrowly missed promotion to the Serie A. But a year later, this was successful on the second attempt. In the Rosaneri it had not Paul Codrea easily and could not enforce properly. He stood there for three years under the contract, but was loaned twice at Perugia and Torino. Since summer 2006 Codrea stood at Siena under contract until 2012. After 22 games and two goals in his first season, he became the top performer of his team. In the summer of 2012 returned to Romania and joined Rapid București and in winter of 2013, he returned home at Politehnica Timişoara being player-manager.
