Pavan Varma is an Indian diplomat, author, and politician. He is the current Governor of Bihar and a former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, on 5 November 1953. Varma graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and obtained a master's degree in English Literature from the University of Delhi. He then went on to pursue a career in the Indian Foreign Service, serving in various diplomatic posts in India and abroad. Varma has authored several books, including The Great Indian Middle Class, Being Indian, and Krishna: The Playful Divine. He has also written for various newspapers and magazines, including The Times of India, The Hindu, and Outlook. Varma was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2006, representing the state of Bihar. He served as the Minister of State for External Affairs in the Government of India from 2009 to 2011. In 2020, he was appointed as the Governor of Bihar. Varma is married to Shashi Varma, and the couple has two children.
