Peter Fleming was an English travel writer and journalist, best known for his books about international exploration. He was born on 31 May 1907 in London, England, UK. He was the younger brother of Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond. Peter Fleming was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. He worked as a journalist for The Times and The Spectator, and wrote several books about his travels, including Brazilian Adventure (1933), News from Tartary (1936), and One's Company (1934). In World War II, Fleming served in the British Army in the Middle East and North Africa. After the war, he wrote several books about his wartime experiences, including The Siege of Peking (1959). In his later years, Fleming wrote several books about his travels, including The Fate of Admiral Kolchak (1962) and Bayonets to Lhasa (1961). He died on 11 August 1971 in London, England, UK. British novelist and travel writer Peter Fleming was born in London, England. His father was a British army officer and a Member of Parliament. He was the editor of the college newspaper at Eton and attended Christchurch College at Oxford, where he was the editor of the weekly publication "Isis". After graduating from Oxford in 1929, he got a job on the staff at "The London Evening Standard". He also worked for the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) and "The Spectator", often writing under the pen name "Moth". It was as a travel writer, however, that he is probably best known. He traveled to, and stayed for long periods in , China, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Japan and Manchuria, mostly as a correspondent for "The London Times".
