Philippe Eidel is a French-born Malagasy politician who served as Prime Minister of Madagascar from 2009 to 2011. He was born in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on 22 December 1956. He studied at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and obtained a degree in economics. Eidel began his political career in the early 1990s, when he was appointed Minister of Finance and Budget in the government of President Didier Ratsiraka. He later served as Minister of Economy and Finance from 1997 to 1998. In 2009, he was appointed Prime Minister by President Marc Ravalomanana. During his tenure, he implemented a number of economic reforms, including the introduction of a new currency, the ariary. In 2011, Eidel resigned as Prime Minister following a political crisis in the country. He has since returned to the private sector and is currently the CEO of a financial services company.
