Timeline
Meti also currently holds the record for the longest ball in World Long Drive competition in the Women’s Division, at 406 yards, which she accomplished at the 2017 Mile High Showdown in Colorado. Meti finished second in that Showdown, though, as her record drive occurred in her semi-final match. The 406-yard blast reportedly may also have been aided by a fortunate bounce off a marker or sprinkler head.
Meti’s winning 380-yard drive at the 2018 Ak-Chin Smash in the Sun event was 30 yards longer than her nearest competition.
Meti was introduced to the sport of golf by her father Raz, who thought she would enjoy playing it as much as he did. She picked up her first club at age 7 and started playing the game at 11 years of age. Her parents supported all of her sporting endeavors. They both coached the sport of Waka Ama (also known as Outrigger Paddling) and instilled in Meti the focus and commitment to compete at top level. Her father had a dream for her to succeed in golf and spent every spare moment coaching and training her. He was her #1 fan and supporter. He passed away a year before Meti’s return to WLD competition and her 2016 WLD Championship.
In addition to her victory at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship in 2018, Meti also won the Ak-Chin Smash in the Sun (Arizona) in May. In her five WLD competition appearances in 2018, Meti reached the semi-finals or beyond in each, with two of those being victories (Volvik WLD Championship and the Ak-Chin Smash in the Sun).
Meti is a three-time Volvik World Long Drive champion, having won the annual title in 2006, 2016 and 2018.
Her first win in 2006 came in Mesquite, Nev., and her most recent victories took place at WinStar World Casino & Resort (Thackerville, Okla.).
Meti won her first WLD title in 2006 at the age of 19. She took a break from WLD in 2009 in order to focus on her professional golf career nearer to home in New Zealand and Australia. She returned to WLD and promptly won the 2016 Championship as well as the 2018 title.
