Pierre-Célestin Nkou was a Cameroonian politician and diplomat who served as the Prime Minister of Cameroon from 1972 to 1975. He was born in the village of Nkou, in the department of Nkoumou, in the Littoral Province of Cameroon. Nkou was educated at the University of Yaoundé, where he obtained a degree in law. He then went on to pursue a career in politics, becoming a member of the Cameroonian National Assembly in 1962. He was appointed Minister of Justice in 1965, and in 1972 he was appointed Prime Minister of Cameroon. During his tenure as Prime Minister, Nkou was responsible for the implementation of a number of economic and social reforms, including the introduction of a new currency, the CFA franc, and the establishment of a national health insurance system. He also oversaw the construction of a number of infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Kribi-Douala railway line. Nkou left office in 1975 and returned to his native village of Nkou, where he lived until his death in 2020. He was 96 years old.
