Pierre Viot was a French actor and director. He was born in Bordeaux, France, on April 9, 1925. He began his career as an actor in the 1950s, appearing in films such as "The Longest Day" (1962) and "The Train" (1964). He also directed several films, including "The Day of the Jackal" (1973) and "The Return of the Musketeers" (1989). Viot was married to actress Marie-Christine Barrault from 1965 until his death in 2020. He had two children, a son and a daughter. Viot was a member of the French Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 2004. He died on April 9, 2020, at the age of 95.

Former student of the École nationale d'administration (Jean-Giraudoux promotion, 1950-1952). Viot headed the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée from 1973 to 1984. He was elected as President of the Cannes Film Festival in 1984, replacing Robert Favre Le Bret until 2000. He presided over the Opéra Bastille from 1985 to 1990, and the Paris Opera from 1985 to 1987.
