R. K. W. Goonesekera was a Sri Lankan politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1977 to 1978. He was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 8 May 1928. He was educated at Royal College, Colombo, and the University of Ceylon. Goonesekera began his career in the Sri Lankan civil service in 1950, and served in various capacities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States in 1972, and served in that capacity until 1977. In 1977, Goonesekera was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he held until 1978. He was also a member of the Sri Lankan delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in 1977. Goonesekera was a member of the United National Party, and was a Member of Parliament from 1977 to 1978. He was also a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party from 1978 to 1983. Goonesekera passed away on 28 April 2021 at the age of 95.
