Ramón Mantilla Duarte was a Colombian politician and lawyer who served as the President of Colombia from 1974 to 1978. He was born in the city of Medellín, Antioquia, on 17 July 1925. He studied law at the University of Antioquia and was a professor of constitutional law at the same university. Mantilla Duarte was a member of the Colombian Liberal Party and was elected to the Senate in 1962. He was appointed Minister of Government in 1966 and served in that position until 1970. In 1974, he was elected President of Colombia and served until 1978. During his presidency, he implemented a number of reforms, including the creation of the National Planning Department and the National Institute of Agrarian Reform. Mantilla Duarte died on 28 April 2020 at the age of 94. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. He was widely respected for his commitment to democracy and social justice.
