He has also composed music for film and television. Raoul Björkenheim was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Finland. He began playing guitar at the age of nine, and studied classical guitar at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He later studied jazz guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Raoul Björkenheim has released numerous albums as a leader or co-leader, including Scorch Trio (1996), Beyond (1998), and Ecstasy (2000). He has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Bill Laswell, John Zorn, and Dave Douglas. He has composed music for film and television, including the score for the Finnish film The Man Without a Past (2002). Raoul Björkenheim is currently based in Helsinki, Finland. He continues to perform and record, and is a member of the Scorch Trio, a free improvisation group.
