He studied at the University of Peradeniya, where he obtained a degree in Sinhala. He began his career as a lyricist in the early 1980s, writing for the film industry. He has since written lyrics for over 500 films, including some of the most popular films in Sri Lanka. Wijesinghe has also written lyrics for several popular television serials, including the long-running soap opera, "Sulang Kirilli". He has also written lyrics for several popular songs, including the hit single "Sulang Kirilli". Wijesinghe is married and has two children. He currently resides in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
