Red Barber was an American sportscaster, best known for his work announcing Major League Baseball games for the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees. He was born on February 17, 1908 in Columbus, Mississippi. Barber began his broadcasting career in 1934, calling play-by-play for the University of Florida football team. He then moved to the Cincinnati Reds in 1939, and then to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1939. He was the lead announcer for the Dodgers from 1939 to 1953, and then moved to the New York Yankees in 1954. Barber was known for his folksy style of broadcasting, and was nicknamed "The Ol' Redhead". He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. Red Barber died on October 22, 1992 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was 84 years old.
