Rees Thomas (rugby league) is a former Welsh rugby league coach who was born on 31 August, 1926 in Maesteg, Glamorgan, Wales. He is best known for his coaching career, which spanned from the 1950s to the 1980s. Thomas began his career as a player in the Welsh Rugby League, playing for Maesteg RLFC. He then moved into coaching, taking charge of Maesteg in the 1950s. He then went on to coach a number of other Welsh clubs, including Aberavon, Bridgend, Neath and Swansea. In the 1970s, Thomas moved into international coaching, taking charge of the Wales national rugby league team. He was in charge of the team for the 1975 Rugby League World Cup, where Wales reached the semi-finals. He also coached the Wales team at the 1977 World Cup. Thomas retired from coaching in the 1980s, but continued to be involved in the game as a selector and administrator. He was inducted into the Welsh Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2011. Rees Thomas played scrum-half, and was man of the match winning the Lance Todd Trophy in Wigan's 13-9 victory over Workington Town in the 1958 Challenge Cup Final during the 1957–58 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 10 May 1958, in front of a crowd of 66,109, and played scrum-half in the 30-13 victory over Hull F.C. in the 1959 Challenge Cup Final during the 1958–59 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 9 May 1959, in front of a crowd of 79,811.
