She began playing music at a young age, learning the piano, guitar, and drums. She attended McGill University, where she studied music and theater. Chassagne has released two solo albums, The Bedroom Demos (2005) and The Return of the Frog Queen (2006). She has also collaborated with other artists, including The National, The Unicorns, and The Dears. In addition to her musical career, Chassagne has also acted in several films, including The Science of Sleep (2006) and The Young Victoria (2009). She has also composed music for films, including The Young Victoria and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009). Chassagne is married to Win Butler, with whom she has two children.
