Ricardo Bressani is a Guatemalan scientist, agronomist, and professor. He is best known for his work in the field of nutrition and food science. He is the founder of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) and the author of numerous books and articles on nutrition and food science. Bressani was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on 28 September 1926. He studied agronomy at the National University of Agriculture in Guatemala and obtained his doctorate in nutrition from the University of California, Berkeley in 1954. Bressani has held numerous positions in the field of nutrition and food science, including Director of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP), Director of the Latin American Center for Nutrition (CLAN), and President of the Latin American Society of Nutrition (SLAN). He has also served as a consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Bressani has received numerous awards and honors for his work in the field of nutrition and food science, including the Order of the Quetzal, the highest honor awarded by the government of Guatemala, and the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. He has also been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Costa Rica, the University of Chile, and the University of Buenos Aires. Bressani is currently a professor emeritus at the National University of Agriculture in Guatemala.
