Moat attended the University of Manchester, where he earned a degree in economics. After graduating, he began his career in the telecommunications industry, working for British Telecom. He then moved to O2, where he worked his way up to become CEO in 2003. During his time at O2, Moat was responsible for the company's expansion into Europe and the United States. He also oversaw the launch of the iPhone in the UK. Moat retired from O2 in 2013 and is now a non-executive director of the company. He is also a director of the British Telecommunications plc and a trustee of the British Museum. Moat has an estimated net worth of $50 million. He is married and has two children.
