Rick Berman is an American television producer and writer. He is best known for his work on the Star Trek franchise, having served as executive producer on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. He has also written and produced for other television series, including Beauty and the Beast, The Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. Berman was born in New York City on December 25, 1945. He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production. Berman began his career in television in the late 1970s, writing for the series Beauty and the Beast. He then wrote for the series The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. In 1987, he was hired to write for the new Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation. He went on to serve as executive producer on the series, as well as on the subsequent series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. Berman has been nominated for several Emmy Awards for his work on Star Trek. He has also been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
