Rita Ann Higgins is an Irish poet, playwright, and novelist. She was born in Galway, Ireland in 1955. She is the author of several collections of poetry, including The Wild Dog Rose (1995), Tongulish (2000), and The Other Side of Longing (2005). She has also written several plays, including The Woman Who Lived in a Tree (1996) and The House of Splendid Isolation (1999). Rita Ann Higgins has won numerous awards for her work, including the Irish Times/Aer Lingus Poetry Prize, the Hennessy Literary Award, and the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry. She has also been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Forward Prize. Rita Ann Higgins is currently a lecturer in Creative Writing at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
