Robert I. Sutton is an American organizational psychologist, professor of management science and engineering at Stanford University, and author of several books on organizational behavior. He is best known for his book The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn't. Sutton was born in 1954 in Chicago, Illinois. He received his B.A. in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976 and his Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Michigan in 1981. Sutton is a professor of management science and engineering at Stanford University, where he has been since 1983. He is also a visiting professor at the London Business School and a senior advisor to the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. Sutton has written several books on organizational behavior, including The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn't, Good Boss, Bad Boss: How to Be the Best and Learn from the Worst, and Weird Ideas That Work: 11 1/2 Practices for Promoting, Managing, and Sustaining Innovation.
