Roger Mainwood is an English animator, director, and art director. He is best known for his work on the animated films The Snowman (1982), The Snowman and the Snowdog (2012), and Ethel & Ernest (2016). Mainwood was born on 31 July 1953 in Canterbury, Kent, England. He studied at Canterbury College of Art and graduated in 1975. Mainwood began his career in animation in 1976, working as an animator on the television series The Wombles. He then went on to work on a number of other television series, including The Wind in the Willows (1984), The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends (1992), and The Magic Roundabout (2005). In 1982, Mainwood worked as an animator on the animated film The Snowman, which was based on the book by Raymond Briggs. The film was a critical and commercial success, and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. In 2012, Mainwood directed the sequel to The Snowman, The Snowman and the Snowdog. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film. In 2016, Mainwood directed the animated film Ethel & Ernest, which was based on the book by Raymond Briggs.
