Ron Shelton is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for writing and directing sports films such as Bull Durham, White Men Can't Jump, Tin Cup, and Cobb. He has also directed films such as Blaze, Play It to the Bone, and Hollywood Homicide. Shelton was born in Whittier, California, and attended the University of Arizona, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He began his career as a screenwriter, writing for television shows such as The Rockford Files and Hill Street Blues. Shelton's first feature film was Bull Durham, which he wrote and directed in 1988. The film was a critical and commercial success, and earned Shelton an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He followed this success with White Men Can't Jump in 1992, and Tin Cup in 1996. Shelton has since directed several other films, including Play It to the Bone, Hollywood Homicide, and Dark Blue. He has also written and produced films such as Blaze, The Great White Hype, and The Perfect Game. Shelton is married to actress Lolita Davidovich, and they have two children.
