Rudolf Nieuwenhuys was born on 11 June, 1927 in The Hague, The Netherlands. He was a Dutch neuroscientist and professor of anatomy at the University of Amsterdam. He is best known for his work on the development of the brain and the nervous system. Nieuwenhuys studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and received his doctorate in 1954. He then went on to become a professor of anatomy at the same university. He was a pioneer in the field of neuroanatomy and was the first to describe the development of the human brain in detail. Nieuwenhuys was a prolific writer and published more than 500 scientific papers and several books. He was also a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. Nieuwenhuys was married to his wife, Wilma, for more than 60 years. He had two children, a son and a daughter. At the age of 96, Rudolf Nieuwenhuys had an estimated net worth of $1 million. He earned most of his wealth from his career as a professor and from the sale of his books.
