He then attended the University of Denver College of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree. Thane has been married to his wife, Mary, since 1951. They have two children, a son and a daughter. Thane has been involved in politics since the 1950s, when he was a member of the Colorado Democratic Party. He was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 1973 and served until 1975. He has also served as a member of the Denver City Council and the Denver County Board of Commissioners. Thane has been involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations throughout his career. He is a member of the Denver Rotary Club, the Denver Chamber of Commerce, and the Denver Bar Association. He is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
