Rustam Azimov is a Uzbek politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan since 2003. He was born on 20 September, 1958 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Azimov graduated from the Tashkent State University of Economics in 1981 and began his career as an economist in the Ministry of Finance of the Uzbek SSR. In 1989, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance and in 1991, he was appointed Minister of Finance. In 2003, Azimov was appointed Prime Minister of Uzbekistan by President Islam Karimov. He has held the position ever since. Azimov is married and has two children. He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan. He is also a member of the Central Council of the World Association of Uzbekistanis.
