He grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and attended August Martin High School. He began his career as a member of the rap group Hood$tars, which released two albums in the early 2000s. In 2008, Safaree Samuels began working with Nicki Minaj, appearing on her mixtapes and albums. He also co-wrote several of her songs, including "Did It On 'Em" and "Stupid Hoe". He was in a long-term relationship with Minaj until 2014. In 2012, Safaree Samuels released his debut solo mixtape, It Is What It Is. He followed this up with two more mixtapes, Life and It Is What It Is 2. He has also collaborated with other artists, including French Montana, Meek Mill, and Chris Brown. In addition to his music career, Safaree Samuels has appeared on several reality television shows, including Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood and Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition.
