Sarah Thomasson is a Swedish skier who was born on 20 July, 1925 in Åre, Jämtland, Sweden. She is best known for her success in the sport of cross-country skiing, having won several medals in the World Championships and the Winter Olympics. Thomasson began skiing at the age of five and was soon competing in local races. She made her international debut in 1948, competing in the World Championships in Oslo, Norway. She went on to win a bronze medal in the 10 km event at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo. In 1954, Thomasson won the gold medal in the 10 km event at the World Championships in Falun, Sweden. She also won a bronze medal in the 5 km event at the same championships. Thomasson continued to compete in international competitions until the late 1960s. She retired from competitive skiing in 1969, but continued to ski recreationally until the age of 90. Thomasson is now 98 years old and is still living in Åre, Jämtland, Sweden. She is considered to be one of the greatest female skiers of all time.
