He is best known for his work on the animated films The Moomins and the Comet Chase (2009) and The Moomins and the Winter Wonderland (2017). He has also worked on several other animated films, including The Flight Before Christmas (2008), The Ugly Duckling and Me! (2006), and The Magic Snowflake (2013). Rantamäki was born in Lappajärvi, Finland, on 1 May 1936. He studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, graduating in 1960. He began his career in animation in the 1960s, working as an animator and art director on several animated films. Rantamäki has been nominated for several awards, including the Jussi Award for Best Animation in 2009 for The Moomins and the Comet Chase, and the Jussi Award for Best Animation in 2017 for The Moomins and the Winter Wonderland.
