He is also the founder and chairman of the Kauffman Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing entrepreneurship and education. Kauffman was born in 1956 in Princeton, New Jersey. He attended Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics. After college, he worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and then as a venture capitalist at Warburg Pincus. In 1986, Kauffman founded MDC Partners, which has since grown to become one of the largest marketing and communications holding companies in the world. The company has more than 50 offices in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. Kauffman is also the founder and chairman of the Kauffman Foundation, which has awarded more than $2 billion in grants to support entrepreneurship and education. He left CompuServe in 1997 to become president and CEO of ClickOver, a company focused on developing management solutions for Internet advertising. ClickOver later became Adknowledge after acquiring Focalink. Before leaving AdKnowledge and the company was sold to CMGI, AdKnowledge grew to over 80 employees with more than 100 customers.
