Shijuro Ogata is a Japanese banker and former Governor of the Bank of Japan. He was born on 16 November 1927 in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1951 and joined the Bank of Japan in 1952. He served as Governor of the Bank of Japan from 1989 to 1994. During his tenure, he implemented a number of reforms to the Japanese banking system, including the introduction of a new currency, the yen. He also oversaw the introduction of a new banking law, which allowed foreign banks to operate in Japan. Ogata is currently a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo and a senior advisor to the Bank of Japan. He is also a member of the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations. As of 2021, Shijuro Ogata's net worth is estimated to be around $10 million.

In 1991, Ogata retired. Upon his retirement, he served as a board of director to Yamaichi Securities and Fuji Xerox. He also co-chaired the United Nations Financial Advisory Committee.

In 1979, he assumed the position of Director at the Foreign Bank of the Bank of Japan. In 1981, he was appointed as a director of the Bank of Japan and oversaw international relations.

In 1971 was appointed branch manager of the Okayama branch office of the national bank.
