Shimmer Chinodya is a Zimbabwean novelist, short story writer, and playwright. He was born in Gweru, Zimbabwe, in 1957. He is best known for his novels Harvest of Thorns (1989) and Fainting by the River (1993). Chinodya studied at the University of Zimbabwe, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in English at the University of York in England. Chinodya has written several novels, including Harvest of Thorns, Fainting by the River, and The Mourners of the Sun. He has also written several short stories, plays, and children's books. Chinodya has won several awards for his work, including the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best Book in Africa in 1989 for Harvest of Thorns, and the Noma Award for Publishing in Africa in 1993 for Fainting by the River.
