Silvio Micali is an Italian computer scientist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is best known for his work in cryptography, complexity theory, and secure multiparty computation. He is the recipient of the Turing Award, the Gödel Prize, and the RSA Prize. Micali was born in Palermo, Italy, on October 13, 1954. He received his Laurea degree in mathematics from the University of Rome in 1979 and his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983. Micali has held a number of positions at MIT, including professor of electrical engineering and computer science, professor of mathematics, and professor of computer science and engineering. He is currently the Ford Professor of Engineering at MIT. Micali has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Turing Award in 2012, the Gödel Prize in 1993, and the RSA Prize in 2001. He is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences.
