He is best known for his sculptures of animals, particularly horses, and his works have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Waksvik studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo from 1945 to 1949. He then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1949 to 1951. Waksvik has been awarded numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Norwegian State Art Award in 1965, the Norwegian State Art Award in 1975, and the Norwegian State Art Award in 1985. He was also awarded the Order of St. Olav in 1985. Waksvik's sculptures are often made of bronze, and he has also worked with wood, stone, and other materials.
