Somsak Kiatsuranont is a Thai politician who has served in various positions in the Thai government. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand from 2008 to 2011, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2014. He is currently the leader of the Thai Rak Thai Party. Somsak was born on 27 June 1954 in Khon Kaen, Thailand. He graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a degree in Political Science and Law. He then went on to pursue a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California. Somsak began his political career in the early 1980s, when he was elected to the House of Representatives. He served as the Minister of Education from 1997 to 2001, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2005. He was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in 2008, and served in that position until 2011. He was then appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he held until 2014. Somsak is married to Dr. Chutima Kiatsuranont, and they have two children. He is an avid golfer and enjoys playing tennis.
