Stefan Henze was a German slalom canoeist who competed from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s. He won a silver medal in the C-2 team event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Henze was born on 3 May 1981 in Halle (Saale), Germany. He began canoeing at the age of 12 and was a member of the German national team from 1998. He won a bronze medal in the C-2 event at the 2003 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Augsburg. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Henze won a silver medal in the C-2 team event with his partner Thomas Becker. He also competed in the C-2 event, but did not finish the final. Henze died in a car accident in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 19 August 2016. He was 35 years old.

2016

On 12 August 2016, Henze suffered serious head injuries after a car crash in Rio de Janeiro, where he coached during the 2016 Summer Olympics, and died three days later. Henze donated his organs. After he died, his heart, his liver and both of his kidneys were transplanted into seriously ill people in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
