Steve Binder is an American television producer, director, and writer. He is best known for producing and directing the Elvis Presley '68 Comeback Special for NBC in 1968. He has also directed and produced a number of other television specials, including the Academy Awards, the Emmy Awards, and the Grammy Awards. Binder was born in Los Angeles, California, and attended the University of Southern California. He began his career in television in the 1950s, working as a production assistant on shows such as The Dinah Shore Show and The Steve Allen Show. In 1968, Binder was hired to produce and direct the Elvis Presley '68 Comeback Special for NBC. The special was a huge success and is widely considered to be one of the greatest television specials of all time. Binder has since gone on to produce and direct a number of other television specials, including the Academy Awards, the Emmy Awards, and the Grammy Awards. He has also directed a number of feature films, including The Million Dollar Duck (1971), The Cat from Outer Space (1978), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982).
