Steven Chong was born in 1957 in Singapore. He is a Singaporean judge and the current Chief Justice of Singapore. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2006 and was appointed Chief Justice in 2012. Chong graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1979 with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1980 and was appointed a Judicial Commissioner in 1995. He was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court in 2006 and was appointed Chief Justice in 2012. Chong is married to Madam Lim Hwee Hua, a former Minister in the Singapore Cabinet. They have two children. Chong is a member of the Singapore Academy of Law and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a member of the International Association of Judges and the International Association of Supreme Administrative Jurisdictions. Chong is a recipient of the Public Service Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Distinguished Service Order.

Steven Chong Horng Siong SC (born 1957) is a Singaporean judge who currently serves as a Judge of Appeal in the Court of Appeal, the highest court in the country. Formerly a Supreme Court judge, he served as Attorney-General from 25 June 2012 to 25 June 2014 before he was appointed Judge of Appeal on 16 February 2017.

Chong was appointed Attorney-General on 25 June 2012, succeeding Sundaresh Menon. In April 2014 it was announced that he would return to Singapore's High Court at the conclusion of his two-year term, to be succeeded by Judge of Appeal V. K. Rajah.

2003

Chong started his legal practice at Drew & Napier, where he spent 14 years and built up his legal career from an associate to the joint Managing Partner. He then spent 12 years in Rajah & Tann and was its Senior Partner and then Managing Partner until his appointment to the Supreme Court Bench. He was a leading commercial lawyer during his practice and argued many cases in court. He was also a senior member of the Singapore arbitration community and participated in arbitration as both a counsel as well as an arbitrator. He is an accredited Arbitrator of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration. Chong was also Iceland's Honorary Consul to Singapore from 2003 to 2009.

1982

Chong obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law in 1982. In that same year, he, together with Davinder Singh, V K Rajah and Jimmy Yim, won the Philip C. Jessup Cup. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1983. He was appointed Senior Counsel in January 1998, Judicial Commissioner in October 2009 and Supreme Court Judge in June 2010.
