Syed Ali Ashraf is a Bangladeshi academic and former professor of economics at the University of Dhaka. He was born on 30 January 1925 in Dacca, Bengal Presidency. He received his B.A. (Hons) in Economics from the University of Dhaka in 1945 and his M.A. in Economics from the same university in 1947. He then went on to pursue his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of London in 1952. Syed Ali Ashraf has served as a professor of economics at the University of Dhaka since 1952. He has also served as the Chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka from 1972 to 1975. He has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka from 1975 to 1977. Syed Ali Ashraf has written several books on economics, including “The Economics of Bangladesh”, “The Economics of Development and Planning”, and “The Economics of Poverty and Inequality”. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. Syed Ali Ashraf is married and has two children. He currently resides in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
