T. L. Plain is a 95-year-old American coach who was born on 25 March, 1925 in Sacramento, Kentucky. He is best known for his career as a basketball coach, having coached at the high school, college, and professional levels. Plain attended the University of Kentucky, where he played basketball and graduated in 1948. He then began his coaching career at the high school level, coaching at several schools in Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1965, he was hired as the head coach of the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he coached for five seasons. In 1970, Plain was hired as the head coach of the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association. He coached the team for two seasons, leading them to the ABA Finals in 1972. After the ABA folded, Plain returned to the college ranks, coaching at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1974 to 1977. Plain then returned to the professional ranks, coaching the Kentucky Thoroughbreds of the Continental Basketball Association from 1978 to 1980. He then returned to the college ranks, coaching at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1981 to 1983. Plain is currently retired and living in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is married and has two children.
