He is a right-handed pitcher and has been playing for the Carp since 2004. Yamasaki was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on February 14, 1981. He attended Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima High School and was selected by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in the 2000 NPB draft. He made his professional debut in 2004 and has since become one of the most reliable pitchers in the NPB. Yamasaki has been a consistent performer for the Carp, posting a career record of 81-68 with a 3.45 ERA. He has also been selected to the NPB All-Star team four times and was named the Central League MVP in 2011. Yamasaki is married and has two children. He also received the association's "Shogi Honor Award" in April 2019 in recognition of winning 600 official games as a professional.

Yamasaki was born in Hiroshima, Japan on February 14, 1981. He entered the Japan Shogi Association's apprentice school in 1992 at the rank 6-kyū as a student of shogi professional Nobuo Mori [ja] . He was promoted to 1-dan in 1994 and obtained full professional status and the rank of 4-dan in April 1998 after finishing second in the 22nd 3-dan League (October 1997 – March 1998) with a record of 12 wins and 6 losses.
