Tex Avery was an American animator, cartoonist, voice actor, and director, recognized for producing some of the most influential cartoons in the history of animation. He was born on February 26, 1908 in Taylor, Texas, to parents George Walton Avery and Mary Augusta "Jessie" (née Bean). Avery began his career in animation in 1927, working for the short-lived Winkler Pictures studio in New York City. He then moved to Los Angeles in 1929, where he worked for the Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Animation. Avery's most famous cartoons include the "Screwy Squirrel" series, "Daffy Duck", "Porky Pig", and "Droopy". Avery was known for his wild and outrageous style of animation, which often featured exaggerated sound effects and wild gags. He was also known for his use of surrealism and satire in his cartoons. Avery was married twice, first to Mary Catherine "Mamie" Johnson in 1933, and then to Patricia "Pat" Sullivan in 1945. He had two children, Fred Avery and Mary Avery. Avery died on August 26, 1980 in Burbank, California, at the age of 72. He was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1992. At the time of his death, Avery had an estimated net worth of $2 million.
