Thanh Lan

August 2022, songstress Thanh Lan published officially her first memoir The Storms of Life (Bão tố cuộc đời). Typescripts were primarily the English language, but author Thanh Lan had translated to Vietnamese by herself from 2018.

About 2012, Number Ten Blues old tape was found and restored by NHK's experts. After looking for more information from Vietnamese persons who lived in Japan, NHK sent staffs to California. They showed Thanh Lan the restored version's DVD and invited her to attend the 2013 Fukuoka International Film Festival. In this event, she received the Audience Award for Number Ten Blues or Goodbye Saigon.

Thanh Lan confessed to MC Jimmy Nhựt Hà from The Jimmy TV channel that she has started writing her memoir from 2003 while she has got free times.

From 1991 to 1993, Thanh Lan focused on the development of her music, consists of singing and composing. She co-operated many studios for the recording, at the same time organized twice liveshow Thanh Lan's Singing (Tiếng hát Thanh Lan, 1991) and Thanh Lan's Music Night (Đêm nhạc Thanh Lan, 1992). In 1993, Thanh Lan came into United States to tour some states. Composer Trúc Hồ from Asia Entertainment suggested a contract, so she had decided settling in US ever since.

Thanh Lan only attended about 2 to 5 films, especially Cards on the Table (with Nguyễn Chánh Tín) and Behind a Fate (with Trần Quang), so both of them was extremely popular in whole Vietnam. Her character Thùy Dung of Cards on the Table who was admired by Northern young audiences. However, Thanh Lan's principal job was a voiceover and vocalist. So during the 1980s, her Northern sound was very popular on Vietnamese televisions and movies, even she was attented by some Soviet filmmakers.

About 1974, filmmaker Osada Norio flied to Saigon performed movie Number Ten Blues with some stars of Japan and Vietnam. Thanh Lan was suggested a main female character, because she had been well known in Tokyo since 1971 & 1973 Yamaha Music Festival. The film project had been complete in March 1975 while South Vietnamese situation was very bad. After April 30, Thanh Lan stucked in Saigon in the midst of panicking people.

In the early 1970s, Thanh Lan activated positively in the Young Music Festival as a free singer. She always performanced French high-fashioned songs anh sometimes English songs in Vietnamese version. At that time, French songs were only popular by municipal pupils so Thanh Lan often lively composed them to Vietnamese lyrics for more interested audiences.

In 1970, Thanh Lan roled a main character in coming-of-age movie Student's Singing (Tiếng hát học trò) by Alpha Films of her maternal uncle Thái Thúc Nha. So her nude scene marked noisily of Saigonese fame, even tabloids called her as the "sexy bomb" or the "princess of gifted arts". However she won right away the Promising Actress from National Award of Literature and Arts. Thanh Lan had roled about 8 films, therein two telefilms which were aboriginal TV-series in Vietnam or total history of Vietnamese films. They also formed the pair of matching cards on South Vietnamese stage who was Nhật Trường and Thanh Lan.

Her maternal uncle Thái Thúc Nha was a famous and top filmmaker in Asia during the 1960-70s. He was also a president of Vietnam Cinema Society (Tổng-trưởng Hiệp-hội Điện-ảnh Việtnam) who started up the Vietnam Film Day. So his son Thái Thúc Hoàng Điệp was a promising film-director who marked 1974 known movie Green Age about Vietnamese hippie's lifestyle.

Thanh Lan (born 1948) is an Vietnamese American popular songstress and actress.

Phạm Thái Thanh Lan was born on 1 March 1948 in (maybe) Vinh town, Nghệ An province of the State of Vietnam (now Vinh city, Nghệ An province, Vietnam). Her saint's name is Catherine, but known by her stage name Thanh Lan . Follow the flashback from Thanh Lan's mother, she had been born prematurely in seventh month as her family had to flee from war.
