Thea Beckman was a Dutch author of children's and young adult literature. She is best known for her historical fiction series, including the popular 'Crown' trilogy. She was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and studied at the University of Amsterdam. She began writing in the 1950s, and her first book, 'De Zwarte Hand' (The Black Hand), was published in 1956. Beckman's books often focus on strong female protagonists, and she was a strong advocate for gender equality. She was awarded the Dutch State Prize for Children's Literature in 1975, and the Dutch State Prize for Youth Literature in 1981. She died in Rotterdam in 2004.
