Toon van Driel is a Dutch animator, director, and producer. He is best known for his work on the animated television series, The Smurfs. He has also worked on several other animated series, including The Adventures of Tintin, The Little Prince, and The Magic Roundabout. Van Driel was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. He began his career in animation in the late 1960s, working on several Dutch television series. In the 1970s, he moved to France and worked on the animated series The Smurfs. He also worked on the animated series The Adventures of Tintin and The Little Prince. In the 1980s, Van Driel moved to the United Kingdom and worked on the animated series The Magic Roundabout. He also worked on the animated series The Animals of Farthing Wood and The Dreamstone. Van Driel has won several awards for his work, including the Dutch Academy Award for Best Animated Film in 1985 for The Smurfs. He has also been nominated for several other awards, including the International Emmy Award for Best Animated Series in 1988 for The Animals of Farthing Wood. Van Driel is currently retired and living in the Netherlands.
