Torsten Persson is a Swedish economist and professor of economics at Stockholm University. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Econometric Society. He is best known for his work on the economics of taxation, public economics, and economic growth. Torsten Persson was born on 18 April 1954 in Stockholm, Sweden. He received his PhD in economics from Stockholm University in 1981. He has held various positions at Stockholm University, including professor of economics since 1991. Torsten Persson is married to Anna Dreber, a professor of economics at the Stockholm School of Economics. They have two children. Torsten Persson has published numerous books and articles on the economics of taxation, public economics, and economic growth. He is the co-author of the book “The Political Economy of Taxation” (with Richard Blundell and Lars Jonung). He is also the co-author of the book “The Economics of Taxation” (with Richard Blundell and Lars Jonung). Torsten Persson has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Yrjö Jahnsson Award in Economics in 2003, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2006, and the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics, Finance and Management in 2011.
