Gruev is also a two-time Balkan champion, having won the men's slalom at the 1956 Balkan Games in Sofia, Bulgaria, and the men's giant slalom at the 1958 Balkan Games in Bucharest, Romania. Gruev is also a two-time Bulgarian champion, having won the men's slalom at the 1955 Bulgarian National Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria, and the men's giant slalom at the 1957 Bulgarian National Championships in Borovets, Bulgaria.
