Subotic was born on 24 December 1925 in Silbas near Backa Palanka, Serbia, Yugoslavia. He studied at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and graduated in 1950. Subotic has appeared in over 100 films and television shows throughout his career. He has won numerous awards for his performances, including the Golden Arena for Best Actor at the Pula Film Festival in 1969 for his role in The Battle of Neretva.
