Vicente Aleixandre was a Spanish poet and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate associated with the Generation of '27. He was born in Seville to a family with a long tradition of military service. His father was a colonel in the Spanish army, and his grandfather had been a major general. Aleixandre studied law at the University of Seville, but abandoned his studies to devote himself to poetry. He published his first book of poems, La destrucción o el amor, in 1925. His work was heavily influenced by the French surrealists, and he was a member of the Spanish surrealist group, the Generation of '27. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1977. Aleixandre was known for his lyrical and philosophical poetry, which often explored themes of love, death, and the human condition. He wrote several collections of poetry, including La destrucción o el amor (1925), Pasión de la tierra (1930), and El hombre acecha (1941). He also wrote several plays, including El hombre deshabitado (1935) and El hombre acecha (1941). Aleixandre died in Madrid in 1984. He is remembered as one of the most important Spanish poets of the 20th century.
