He is best known for his roles in films such as The Cremator (1969), The Firemen's Ball (1967), and The Shop on Main Street (1965). Besser was born on 2 December 1930 in Krocehlavy by Kladno, Czechoslovakia. He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and graduated in 1955. Besser has appeared in over 100 films and television shows throughout his career. He has won numerous awards, including the Czech Lion Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Cremator (1969). Besser is married to actress Jana Brejchová and they have two children. He currently resides in Prague, Czech Republic.
