William Cowie (rugby union) was a Scottish rugby union player who played for Glasgow HSFP, Scotland, and the British Lions. He was born on 1 June 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland. Cowie was a powerful forward who was renowned for his strength and aggression. He made his debut for Scotland in 1951 and went on to make a total of 18 appearances for his country. He was part of the British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand in 1959 and was also part of the Scotland team that won the Five Nations Championship in 1955. Cowie retired from rugby in 1962 and went on to become a successful businessman. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 1975 for his services to rugby.
