William Devane is an American actor, writer, and director. He is best known for his roles as Greg Sumner on the primetime soap opera Knots Landing (1979–1993), and as President John F. Kennedy in the miniseries The Missiles of October (1974). He has also appeared in films such as Marathon Man (1976), Space Cowboys (2000), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Devane was born on September 5, 1939 in Albany, New York. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, and made his Broadway debut in 1962. He made his film debut in the 1965 drama The Hallelujah Trail. Devane has been married to Eugenie Devane since 1967. They have two children. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
